Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 14, powers India’s U19 surge

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a teenage batting prodigy from India’s under-19 cricket set-up whose explosive performances have made him one of the brightest young talents in world youth cricket.

Born on 27 March 2011 in Tajpur, Bihar, the left-handed batter began playing the game at a very young age and moved swiftly through age-group cricket with a series of eye-catching innings.

Even before his under-19 breakthrough he had attracted attention by becoming one of the youngest players to debut in senior domestic cricket and by earning an IPL contract with the Rajasthan Royals, where his clean ball-striking has already marked him out as one to watch.

Sooryavanshi’s international profile surged during the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. Opening the innings against the United Arab Emirates at just 14, he produced one of the most remarkable knocks in youth cricket history, scoring 171 off 95 balls, with 14 sixes and nine fours.

His blend of power hitting and controlled aggression helped India pile up 433 for 6, one of the highest team totals recorded in under-19 cricket.

The innings not only showcased his ability to dominate international attacks but also broke Asia Cup records for sixes in a youth innings and placed him as the second-highest individual scorer by an Indian in under-19 one-day internationals, behind only Ambati Rayudu’s 177 in 2002.

India went on to register a massive victory, underlining Sooryavanshi’s value as a genuine match-winner at youth level.

The Asia Cup innings was not an isolated burst. Earlier in the year, on an India under-19 tour of England, Sooryavanshi hammered a 20-ball half-century, becoming the second-fastest Indian under-19 batter to reach fifty, narrowly behind Rishabh Pant’s 18-ball effort.

That tour cemented his place in the side and earned him selection for further assignments, including a multi-format series in Australia where he retained his spot after strong showings against England’s youth attack.

Coaches and selectors have highlighted his ability to adapt to different conditions while retaining his natural attacking game.

On the field, Sooryavanshi is known for his aggressive left-handed batting, clean hitting through and over the arc, and a fearless approach against both pace and spin. He looks to take the initiative early, often putting opposition bowlers under pressure in the powerplay, but has also shown the temperament to build longer innings once set.

This combination of power and composure has made him a pivotal part of India’s under-19 top order and a player opposition teams plan specifically for. Off the field, his performances have captured the public imagination: after his blistering Asia Cup knock he briefly became one of India’s most-searched personalities online, out-trending even some established stars.

At just 14, Sooryavanshi’s emergence is significant for Indian cricket. He is among the youngest standouts in youth internationals, his record-breaking innings in Dubai hinted at a rare ceiling, and his rapid progress through under-19 tours in England and Australia suggests he is more than a flat-track bully.

For selectors, franchises and fans, he has come to represent a new wave of Indian batting talent likely to be tracked closely in the run-up to future under-19 World Cups and, in time, a full transition into senior domestic and international cricket. If his current trajectory continues, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will remain one of the most closely watched batting prospects in the global youth game.
