Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has appointed Jalandhar Cantonment MLA and his close aide Pargat Singh as party’s state general secretary.
“With the approval of Hon’ble Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Organisation), KC Venugopal and Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat, I hereby appoint S.Pargat Singh as PPCC General Secretary (Organisation) with immediate effect,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said in a press release.
The approval of Pargat Singh’s appointment from the party’s high command less than a month after Sidhu was appointed as the party’s new state president.
Kuljit Singh Nagra, Pawan Goel, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, and Sangat Singh Gilzian were appointed as working presidents of Punjab Congress.
Sidhu’s appointment as Punjab chief had come amid simmering tensions with Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Singh had earlier rejected Sidhu’s appointment to the post.
Singh was present at a formal event in Chandigarh where Sidhu took over as the new chief of the Punjab Congress, signalling a truce in the faction-ridden party ahead of the state Assembly election.
