Haiti President Jovenel Moïse assassinated

Haitian President Jovenel Moïse has been assassinated by a group of unidentified people that stormed his private residence, according to the country’s interim prime minister.

The assassination, which took place on July 6, comes in the wake of increasing gang violence alongside disturbed political and economic stability,

President Moise’s wife, First Lady Martine Moïse has been hospitalized, the interim Premier Claude Joseph said while condemning the incident as a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act.”

However, Haiti’s National Police and other authorities had the situation in the Caribbean country under control, he said.

The killing late Tuesday comes amid deepening political and economic stability and a spike in gang violence.
