Haydee Coloso-Espino, one of the greatest Filipino swimmers ever, died on Thursday. She was 83.
Coloso-Espino left a lasting legacy as “Asia’s Swim Queen” with a total of 10 medals won in the Asian Games.
At just 16 years old, Coloso-Espino made her Asiad debut in 1954 in Manila where she claimed two gold medals and a silver.
She added a gold and three more silvers in the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo before capping off her international career with a silver and a couple more bronzes in 1962 in Jakarta.
