Reino “Nong” Palacpac, pediatrician

Dr Reino “Nong” Palacpac, a pediatrician from Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGH) in Manila, passed away due to Covid-19 on July 7, 2020. A Facebook post by the JJASGH said that Palacpac even considered how he can help fight the health crisis once he fully recovers from the virus until he succumbed to the complications caused by the said disease. Dr. Salvacion Rodriguez-Gatchalian, a pillar of the Philippines’ Pediatric Infectious Disease medicine and a champion of children’s health had fallen in the battle against the deadly coronavirus, on March 26. Gatchalian was the president of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) that leads training of physicians on child health. She also served as the assistant director at the Research of Institute of Tropical Medicine that houses the country’s lone testing center for Covid-19. She too had been a fellow of Pediatric Infectious Disease for more than three decades.
