John Peacock, Football Coach

Western Carolina University offensive line coach John Peacock died last Wednesday at the age of 32, the school announced on Twitter. In a Facebook post his fiancĂ©e Erika Alexander said that he died from COVID-19 complications just four days after he was diagnosed. On the school’s athletics website, Peacock’s bio said the two were planning to wed in February 2022. According to a statement issued by the school, Peacock began working at Western Carolina this past spring and was known by his colleagues and student-athletes as a “selfless, hard worker who was always upbeat and constantly humming or singing.” The school will host a moment of silence in his honor during the first football game of the season at E.J. Whitmire Stadium on September 4, reads the statement.

She was released from a Tehran hospital two days before her death, however, she was hospitalized again when her condition became critical, and shortly thereafter she died, Persian media announced. Japanese actor Shinichi Chiba 82, also known as Sonny Chiba, who dazzled action movie fans in Japan and abroad, died Thursday at a hospital in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo due to pneumonia associated with COVID-19. Chiba, the Fukuoka native, gained nationwide popularity through his role in the television drama series “Key Hunter,” which began in the late 1960s. The karate movie “Gekitotsu! Satsujin ken” in the 1970s featuring his action-filled performances became a hit in the U.S., and its popularity endures outside Japan. Chiba also appeared in filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's 2003 movie “Kill Bill: Vol.1.”

A beloved Central Georgia veterinarian who spent most of his life caring for animals has died of Covid-19. According to a post from Gordon Animal Clinic, Inc. Dr Ivey Dennard passed away Thursday morning from COVID-19. 13WMAZ profiled Dennard back in 2018 as he reflected on his more than four decades in business. He was known for his practical medicine and reasonable costs. You could often find clients sitting in their cars as he arrived at the office, as he worked on a first-come, first-served basis. At the time we spoke to him, he was 77-years-old. He said he didn’t want to retire because of his loyalty to his clients. Dennard’s clinic is the Gordon Animal Clinic on Dennard Hardy Road in Gordon.
