Henri Weber, politician

Henri Weber a French politician and Member of the European Parliament for the north-west of France – died on 26 April 2020 after contracting COVID-19 in France. He was 75.

He was a member of the Socialist Party (PS), which is part of the Party of European Socialists, and sat on the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education.

Weber was born in Leninabad (now Khujand), Tajikistan, Soviet Union, from Jewish parents. His father was a watchmaker. Henri Weber was an activist in the May 1968 uprising and was a leading member of the Trotskyist Jeunesse communiste révolutionnaire (Revolutionary Communist Youth) and Revolutionary Communist League (LCR) before joining the PS.

He was also a substitute for the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, a member of the delegation to the EU–Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and a substitute for the delegation for relations with Japan.
