An octogenarian father committed suicide by jumping off his condominium balcony in Bangkok in the wee hours of July 4.
The 84-year-old distraught parent killed himself over the death of his 57-year-old daughter, who was suffering from Covid-19.
The body was discovered by police in the morning, who also found the dead body of the daughter – Pranee – lying on a bed inside the condominium in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district.
While police said Pranee died from Covid, the relatives of the two deceased said the daughter had been unable to get a bed in a hospital and was being treated at home.
Meanwhile, Thailand continues to battle COVID-19 while facing bed shortages and patients often dying in waiting for a bed. Field hospitals are being set up even as ICU beds are reported full at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital, and doctors highlight – through photos — the long lines of people waiting for beds outside of Ramathibodi Hospital.
