Jairo Bravo, a man who worked at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, died on August 1, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. He is believed to be the first employee of Miami-Dade’s County’s detention system lost to the virus. Jairo Bravo, 48, worked at TGK for less than a year. Before that, he spent three years with the Florida Department of Corrections. His family lives outside of the country and is trying to get to Miami. Funeral arrangements are forthcoming. Local10.com

Linda Mendez My mom was admitted into the hospital on June 22nd. She was intubated the following day. My sister called the hospital to see how my mom was doing. My sister called me at work to advise that my mom tested positive for Covid 19, she was put in an induced coma, and on a ventilator. My heart tanked. Her mother spoke with Local 10 News, saying she never thought this pandemic nightmare would hit so close to home. She said she is beyond heartbroken. According to her mother, Estelia was born with underlying medical conditions that made her among those most vulnerable to the coronavirus. She said Estelia came down with a fever in early July that went on for about three days. An ambulance took her to Nicklaus Children's Hospital on July 5.
