Eric Wagner, Singer

The American singer Eric Wagner, who was frontman with the doom metal bands The Skull and Trouble and a guest vocalist on Dave Grohl's Probot side project, has died. He was 62 and had been admitted to hospital in the US last week with Covid-19-related pneumonia. His passing was confirmed by his family and The Skull bandmates on social media. Wagner formed Illinois band Trouble in 1979 and they went on to release the seminal albums Psalm 9 (1984), The Skull (1985) and Trouble (1990). Having left the band in the late 1990s, he rejoined in 2000. Wagner left Trouble again in 2008 and went on to form The Skull. Brent Yonts, Lawmaker

Former Kentucky lawmaker Brent Yonts, who sponsored mine-safety legislation and led a key House panel during his long legislative career, died Friday after battling a COVID-19 infection. He was 72. Yonts, a Democrat from Muhlenberg County, was first elected to the Kentucky House in 1996 and represented his western Kentucky district until his defeat during a statewide Republican wave in 2016. The GOP took control of the House in that election, cementing legislative majorities in both chambers. Yonts was vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to former colleagues. He still contracted the virus, was hospitalized for weeks and eventually was placed on a ventilator. In a social media post days before his death, his daughter, Ellen Yonts Suetholz, wrote about her father's battle...

Angelle Mosley, Entrepreneur

A 33-year-old woman has died in New Orleans despite being vaccinated against COVID-19, a “breakthrough” case that her family hopes will serve as a reminder to Americans to continue to wear masks. Angelle Mosley told her mother and sister in July that she had tested positive for the delta variant of coronavirus, but her mom told CBS News her health quickly deteriorated because she was obese. Her mother, Tara Mosley, was asked if doctors specifically told her that her daughter’s weight was a factor in her severe illness. “He did,” she said in response. “He did. He says that she’s a large person. Her heart could not pump like it should have been pumping.” Obesity is one of the comorbidities that can put a person at risk for severe symptoms of COVID-19. Others include kidney and hear...

Former Auburn linebacker Craig Ogletree, who also had a brief stop in the NFL, died Monday from complications of COVID-19. He was 53. Ogletree played four seasons with the Tigers and was co-captain of the 1989 team that won the Southeastern Conference championship. “Great linebacker, great leader,” said his college roommate, fellow linebacker Quentin Riggins. “He’d make play after play. What most people don’t know is that he was also an excellent student, a brilliant person. Great dad and husband. We just clicked. He was a very special person.” His best year with Auburn came in 1989 when he had 11 sacks and 113 tackles. That was the third of three straight conference titles the Tigers won. Ogletree, a Georgia native, was a seventh-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in ...
