Xavier Rego, an Indian policeman, passed away from Covid-19 on Sunday morning (September 13, 2020). The 53-year-old inspector, who was attached to Vakola police station and had recently been hospitalized after a minor road accident, was not on duty and was recovering. As per the protocol, samples were collected for a Covid test, which came out positive later on Sunday. A 1993 batch police inspector, Rego was earlier attached to Borivali police station as a Police Inspector (Crime) before being transferred to Dindoshi police station a few months ago. Pauldurai, a special sub-inspector of police in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district and one of the 10 police personnel arrested in the custodial deaths of a father-son duo, died of Covid-19 in Madurai in the early hours of August 10, 2020, reported ANI. Pauldurai was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital on July 24 after he tested positive for the coronavirus. He had contracted the infection during his stay at the Madurai Central Prison. The family of the first Covid-19 casualty of Surat police says no test was conducted on the deceased ASI before he was discharged from hospital, reported The Indian Express. Baraiya was deployed at Bhagal Cross road in Surat and was taken to NCH on May 30, after he reported fever, cough and cold.
