Chavalit Soemprungsuk, painter, sculptor, and printmaker

Chavalit Soemprungsuk a Thai painter, sculptor, and printmaker based in Thailand and the Netherlands died from COVID-19 at OLVG on April 27, 2020, at the age of 80. In 2014, Soemprungsuk was honored as a National Artist of Thailand for visual arts. Soemprungsuk was born in Khon Kaen, Thailand, located in the country's northeast Isan region, on July 30, 1939. He studied at Silpakorn University in Bangkok, where he was one of the last students of the Italian-born sculptor, Silpa Bhirasri. Soemprungsuk then moved to Amsterdam to enroll at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts). Henri Richelet –a French painter ‑ died of COVID-19 on 18 March 2020 in Paris, aged 75.   Born to primary school teachers in a small village close to Domrémy, the birthplace of Joan of Arc, Henri Richelet spent his childhood and adolescence in the neighbouring small town of Neufchâteau (Vosges).   After his Baccalauréat, he first attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, then the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Liu Shouxiang –a Chinese watercolor painter and professor at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts – died from Covid-19 on 13 February 2020.   His work won many awards and was collected by many art museums. He was also a member of the China Democratic League.   Liu was born in Wuhan. In 1981, he graduated from the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in the Department of Fine Arts, majored in teaching.
