Mian Jamshed Uddin Kakakhel, politician

Mian Jamshed ud Din ‑ a Pakistani politician hailing from Nowshera District and belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – succumbed to Covid-19 on 3 June 2020. He served as the Minister for Excise & Taxation in the 10th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. On 3 June 2020 Kakakhel died from COVID-19. According to media reports, Jamshed Ud din, 65, had been undergoing treatment for several days and was on a ventilator at the Kalsoom Hospital in Islamabad.

  Dr Hu Weifeng ‑ an urologist who was treating patients at the Wuhan Central Hospital where Covid-19 was originally identified ‑ passed away on 2 June 2020 after a four-month fight with Covid-19. He made headlines in March, when his skin turned black "due to liver dysfunction" during his treatment. The exact cause of his death has not been made public but the news has triggered an outpouring of anger on Chinese social media sites. He tested positive for the virus in January, during the early stages of the Chinese outbreak, and was transferred to different hospitals for treatment the following two months. His condition initially improved in mid-March; however, he then suffered cerebral haemorrhages in late April and May. BBC

Robert Moody Laughlin ‑ an American anthropologist and linguist, and a curator at the Smithsonian Institution – died of Covid-19 on May 28, 2020. His research focused on the indigenous Maya peoples of Chiapas, Mexico and the Tzotzil language. In 1975, he published The Great Tzotzil Dictionary of San Lorenzo Zinacantán, containing 30,000 entries. He also published works on other aspects of Tzotzil culture, such as folktales and ethnobotany, and helped to found a local writer's cooperative, Sna Jtz'ibajom, and a theatre troupe. His work is credited with helping to standardize how the Tzotzil language is written and with reviving interest in indigenous languages in the region. Laughlin died of COVID-19 in Arlington, Virginia.
