Biplab Dasgupta, Assistant Director

Biplab Dasgupta – an Assistant Director of Health Services in Kolkata, India  passed away on 26 April 2020 after suffering from COVID-19.

Dr. Biplab Kanti Dasgupta, a senior government doctor involved in the fight against COVID-19 died at a hospital in Kolkata. Dasgupta, 60, posted as Assistant Director Health Services (equipment and stores) was initially admitted to Beliaghata Infectious Diseases hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Salt Lake, Kolkata on April 18. Dasgupta succumbed to the disease. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled Doctor Dasgupta's demise.

''We have lost Dr. Biplab Kanti Dasgupta Assistant Director, Health Services, West Bengal in the early hours of today. He was Assistant Director of Health Services, Central Medical Stores. We are deeply pained with his untimely demise. His sacrifice for the cause of ailing humanity will ever be in our hearts and will make our COVID warriors fight the deadly virus with even greater determination. My heartfelt condolence to Dr. Dasgupta’s bereaved family members and colleagues,'' Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

The National Medicos Organisation (NMO) also remembered Dr Dasgupta and expressed deep shock on his demise.

The NMO in a tweet wrote: "We are deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. Biplab Kanti Dasgupta, ADHS, Central Medical Store, WBHS on 26th April, 2020. We pray for his family, relatives, colleagues and other dear and near ones. Heartfelt Condolences on behalf of entire NMO BENGAL family. RIP Sir!"
