Daniele “Dani” Costa, Nursing Technician

Daniele "Dani" Costa – a Nursing Technician at Serviço de AtendimentoMóvel de Urgência (Samu) and Unidade de Pronto-Atendimento (UPA), Rio de Janeiro and Nova Iguaçu in Baixada Fluminense, Brazil – passed away on 27 April, 2020, after suffering from COVID-19. Daniele was 41 years old.

She worked in the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in Rio de Janeiro and in an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.

In mid-April, she started with a dry cough and took time off work. Later, she had a high fever, severe tiredness and became a patient with suspected covid-19.

Daniele had worked in the role for 18 years. "She was passionate about the profession and was always very concerned with others. Work in the health field was her life", says her younger sister, the technician in work safety, Tatiane Spagnol, 26 years old.

"I will remember you in the fight and in the combat, because until the last moment you were a warrior", said, on Facebook, a co-worker of Daniele in Samu.

"It is very sad not to be able to give my sister a proper burial. Many of the family will not be able to go. We will not even be able to see her for the last time, because the coffin will be closed. It is very painful," says Tatiane.
