Ajay Kumar Tripathi, judge

Ajay Kumar Tripathi an Indian judge and former Judicial Member of Lokpal since 23 March 2019 died on 2 May 2020 due to COVID-19.

Tripathi, who was also the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, had contracted COVID-19 and was placed on a ventilator in critical condition.

Tripathi graduated in Economics with Hons. from Shri Ram College of Commerce and studied law from Delhi University. He started practice in 1981 at Patna High Court on service matter, Constitutional, Taxation, Excise and commercial litigations. Tripathi was the Standing Counsel for the Union of India and the Income Tax Department. He also appeared on behalf of the CBI and the Auditor and Comptroller General of India.

He served as an Additional Advocate General for the State of Bihar. On 9 October 2006 he was elevated as an Additional Judge of Patna High Court. Justice Tripathi became the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on 7 July 2018. On 23 March 2019 he was appointed as the Judicial Member of Lokpal.
