{"id":9851,"date":"2020-06-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=9851"},"modified":"2020-06-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-26T00:00:00","slug":"","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=9851","title":{"rendered":"Abiola Ajimobi, politician"},"content":{"rendered":" <figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/wp-content\/uploads\/imageholder\/uploads\/Abiola_Ajimobi.jpg?w=810\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-750\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n <p><p>Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi &ndash; a Nigerian senator &ndash; died from Covid-19 on June 25, 2020.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Born on the 16th of December 1949, he was from Oyo State, south-western Nigeria.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He was formerly the Managing Director\/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He left the oil sector in 2002 after 26 years of meritorious service and was elected in 2003 as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria representing Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>After one term in the senate, he contested in 2007 for the governorship seat of Oyo state under the banner of the All Nigeria People&#39;s Party, a bid which he lost.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He contested again in the April 2011 gubernatorial elections under the Action Congress of Nigeria and was elected Governor of Oyo State in a closely contested vote. In 2019, he was succeeded by Oluwaseyi Makinde.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He contested for Senator for his senatorial district but lost.
