Ernesto Gutiérrez Vera – Physician, Epidemiologist, Virologist at Instituto Nacional de Higiene y Medicina Tropical Leopoldo Izquieta Pérez, Guayaquil, Ecuador – passed away on 27 March, 2020, after suffering from COVID-19. Ernesto was 82 years old.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Ernesto Macario Gutiérrez Vera was born in the city of Portoviejo , capital of the province of Manabí , Ecuador. His mother was Alina Vera Loor and his father was the Chonense <\/a>Macario Gutiérrez Solórzano<\/a> , rector of the Olmedo (Portoviejo) and Alejo Lascano ( Jipijapa<\/a> ) schools , also Governor of Manabí, legislator and president of the House of Culture of Guayas. He studied at the Universodad del Valle , in Colombia .<\/p>\r\n\r\n

His research from field and laboratory work on Venezuelan encephalitis in Ecuador was summarized in nine pages, published in 1977, in volume 30 of the Ecuadorian journal of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the Institute of Hygiene.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

He was Minister of Public Health of Ecuador, in the government of General Lucio Gutiérrez<\/a> , in 2003, after Francisco Andino left that position on August 22 of that year. 1 <\/a>6 <\/a>7<\/a> In September Ycaza visited the hospital Francisco Bustamante, to show the press and advocacy of the people, antiretroviral drugs for supplying children with HIV \/ AIDS<\/a> , stating that within twenty – four hours the purchase was made and that there was a delay of five days in the delivery due to the previous administration, which indicated that it is due to the time in the request for the budget.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
