Dr. Alex Hsu, 67, a Broward County doctor who served the community for close to 40 years died of the new coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials haven\u2019t said whether Hsu\u2019s case stemmed from him traveling abroad or whether it was work-related. It also was not clear when he became ill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so sad,\u201d said a receptionist who answered the phone at Hsu\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hsu was in private practice though until 2017 had been associated Northwest Medical Center in Margate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His death was the region\u2019s first for a case where a medical provider has died from the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A daughter who answered the family\u2019s phone was too distraught to talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really need to be with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hsu\u2019s patients were notified by phone of his passing, said a patient who asked not to be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She described Hsu as a doctor who took the time to listen to his patients. There was no rushing, the woman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead he made it very apparent that he cared and wanted to be as helpful as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roland More was saddened by Hsu\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More, a physician graduate, said on social media he did his clinical rotations under Hsu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA humanitarian in the greatest measure possible passed away too soon,\u201d More wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
