{"id":2579,"date":"2020-04-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-11T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=2579"},"modified":"2020-06-12T15:03:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T15:03:19","slug":"dr-jacob-plange-rhule-physician","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=2579","title":{"rendered":"Dr Jacob Plange-Rhule, physician"},"content":{"rendered":" <figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/wp-content\/uploads\/imageholder\/uploads\/Jacob_Plange-Rhule.jfif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-750\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n <p><p>Jacob Plange-Rhule &nbsp;&ndash;a Ghanaian physician, academic, and Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons &ndash; died&nbsp; on 10 April 2020 due to Covid-19.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>At the time of his death, Plange-Rhule was the Head of the Department of Physiology of the School of Medical Sciences in Kumasi, Ghana.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He was also a consulting physician at the Department of Medicine of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, where he founded the Hypertension and Renal Clinic and headed it for more than two decades.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Plange-Rhule was born on 27 July 1957, in Winneba, Central Region, Ghana. He had his secondary education at the Accra Academy where he completed in 1976 prior to entering the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) from the School of Medical Sciences at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1984. Plange-Rhule then completed a doctorate in renal physiology from the former Victoria University of Manchester (now known as the University of Manchester).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>In addition to serving as Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons from 2015 to 2020, Plange-Rhule was the former President of both the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Ghana Kidney Association.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Dr. Jacob Plange-Rhule died from a short illness with COVID-19 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra on 10 April 2020, at the age of 62.
