{"id":11608,"date":"2021-08-10T00:19:34","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T18:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=11608"},"modified":"2021-08-10T00:19:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T18:49:38","slug":"najma-chowdhury-educationist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/personmatters.com\/Remembering_Covid_19_Victims\/?p=11608","title":{"rendered":"Najma Chowdhury, Educationist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Professor emeritus of Dhaka University (DU) Najma Chowdhury and a caretaker government adviser, has died of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prominent academic, who pioneered in establishing women studies in Bangladesh, breathed her last at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She died on Sunday while receiving treatment at the Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in Dhaka, according to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quoting Prof Md Ferdous Hossain, the chairman of the DU Department of Political Science <em>bdnews24.com <\/em>reported that she had tested positive for COVID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe passed away after being hospitalised for several days. Her funeral prayers will be held at Gulshan\u2019s Azad Mosque after Asr prayers and she will be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 79-year-old professor leaves behind two daughters. Her husband, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Mainur Reza Chowdhury, died in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1996, Prof Najma Chowdhury served as an adviser to the caretaker government. In 2007, she was awarded the \u2018Rokeya Chair\u2019 honour by the University Grants Commission.
