Estelia Perez, a 16 years old girl in South Florida, died on July 29, 2020, after contracting COVID-19. Estelia's was family is from Guatemala. Her mother spoke with Local 10 News, saying she never thought this pandemic nightmare would hit so close to home. She said she is beyond heartbroken. According to her mother, Estelia was born with underlying medical conditions that made her among those most vulnerable to the coronavirus. She said Estelia came down with a fever in early July that went on for about three days. An ambulance took her to Nicklaus Children's Hospital on July 5. Maxx Cheng ‑ a 13-year-old Claremont boy from who had been isolating in his room after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, died on July 16, 2020. “He had this, like, dream of wanting to go to the Olympics,” Charlotte Cheng, Maxx’s sister, said. Quarantined inside her home, Cheng said her younger brother began to feel sick on the Fourth of July. “Nausea, vomiting, chest pains,” she said. “That list that pops up, a little bit, on that initial search, he had all of those symptoms.” On July 9, Maxx’s mother took him to get tested for COVID-19. The medical examiner's report notes that Davis attended a 100-person church event, where people were not required to wear face masks, roughly two weeks before she died in a Miami-Dade County hospital. During the nine days that followed, she was given antibiotics, hydroxychloroquine and oxygen via her grandfather's portable machine by her parents while at home.
