Koppana Mohana Rao, former Minister and senior YSR Congress Party leader died of COVID-19 late on the night of July 29, 2020. He was 75 years old. A native of Mallam village in Pithapuram mandal, he is survived by a daughter and a son. Mohana Rao, who was elected from the Pithapuram Assembly constituency in East Godavari district twice, had served as the Forest Minister. Mohana Rao was declared brought dead when he was taken to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada from another hospital. Karen Smith, a longtime Houston nurse of more than three decades, died on July 29, 2020, from COVID-19. When not working, Karen volunteered at a local fire department and that earned her a special farewell. Smith was wife to Harvie and mother to Meghan and Christopher. Her best friend, Colleen Lamb, choked back tears as she said simply, “I’m gonna miss her.” The two met 12 years ago when Lamb started working at the same medical clinic. “We lived three blocks apart and never knew it,” Lamb said. Estelia Perez, a 16 years old girl in South Florida, died on July 29, 2020, after contracting COVID-19. Estelia's was family is from Guatemala. Her mother spoke with Local 10 News, saying she never thought this pandemic nightmare would hit so close to home. She said she is beyond heartbroken. According to her mother, Estelia was born with underlying medical conditions that made her among those most vulnerable to the coronavirus. She said Estelia came down with a fever in early July that went on for about three days. An ambulance took her to Nicklaus Children's Hospital on July 5.
