Gordon Kegakilwe ‑ a senior executive in South Africa’s North West provincial government ‑ succumbed to a COVID-19 related illness on July 6, 2020. He a provincial Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for cooperative governance, human settlement and traditional affairs. “MEC Kegakilwe was admitted with COVID-19-related pneumonia yesterday (July 5, 2020) afternoon at the Vryburg Private Hospital and was immediately put on oxygen, and a decision was taken this morning to transfer him to a medical facility in Klerksdorp,” the statement said, referring to a larger city in the province. She rose to prominence with her novel Die swerfjare van Poppie Nongena, which was translated into 13 languages, as well as staged as a drama and filmed as Poppie Nongena. Elsa Joubert grew up in Paarl and matriculated from the all-girls school La Rochelle in Paarl in 1939. She then studied at the University of Stellenbosch from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1942 and an SED (Secondary Education Diploma) in 1943. Clarence was regarded as the pioneer of Medical industry in South Africa especially for his crucial contributions in eliminating the HIV/AIDS from the country. He also actively advocated against apartheid during his career and also voiced against corruption which mounted during the Presidency of Jacob Zuma.
